2 Malden Schools Locked Down After Bank Robbery

MALDEN (CBS) - Two schools in Malden were locked down Thursday afternoon as police searched for a man involved in an armed bank robbery.

The Citizens Bank on Main Street was robbed at 1 p.m.

Malden police say the suspect handed a note to the teller and demanded money. While he was leaving, he had issues with the front door. Police say he fired five rounds into the door and then fled.

No one was injured in the shooting.

Two schools near the bank, the Early Learning Center for pre-K students and the Forestdale School, which is kindergarten-through-8th grade, were put in lockdown as a precaution.

The suspect is described as a clean-shaven black man in his early 20s about 5 feet 6 inches tall. He was wearing gloves and a baseball hat at the time of the robbery.

Police believe the suspect may be responsible for several other robberies in the Greater Boston area.

A cash reward may be available for anyone with information.
