Hit & Run Victim's Family Pleads For Help

BOSTON (CBS) -- Police are asking for help in finding the SUV that hit and killed a Northeastern University graduate Sunday night.

Andrew Prior, 23, was riding a motorized scooter on Tremont Street near the Roxbury Crossing T station just before midnight when he was hit by an SUV, Boston police report. Officers say the SUV was driving fast when it hit Prior and continued on Tremont Street toward Brigham Circle.

Prior was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

They are now looking for a metallic charcoal grey or silver Hyundai Santa Fe made between 2001 and 2006. Police believe it has heavy front end damage.

Northeastern University released a statement Tuesday saying, "It is a terrible tragedy and our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends."

Prior graduated from Northeastern in May and was just beginning his career as a sign language interpreter.

"Any information would be helpful. We're so desperate for answers. Andy was loved by so many people," says his brother John Prior from the family's home in Syracuse, New York.

"We truly are faithful people and we believe that people make mistakes. It would be difficult, but I think as a family, we could find it in our hearts to forgive this person, whoever it may be, if they were willing to come forward."

Boston Police ask anyone with information to contact them at 617-343-4470. Anonymous tips can left by calling the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS or texting 'TIP' to CRIME (27463).
