Car Crashes In Lowell Canal, Driver Killed

LOWELL (CBS) - A driver was killed when his car went into the Suffolk Canal in Lowell early Sunday morning.

It happened about 7:15 a.m. at the corner of Suffolk and Broadway Streets.

It's not clear yet what caused the PT Cruiser to crash.

Lowell Deputy Fire Chief Michael Cushing told WBZ Radio two dive teams went into the canal after the accident and found no one in the car.

A body was found about 30 feet away.

Cushing said the man has been identified but authorities are not releasing his name at this point.
