$25K bail for driver who hit head of State Police

WBZ-TV

WESTBOROUGH (WBZ) -- A woman who was allegedly driving drunk and crashed into the commander of the state police was ordered held on $25,000 cash bail Tuesday.

51-year-old Donna Sclamo of Worcester pleaded not guilty at her arraignment in Westboro District Court.

She was arrested and charged with driving drunk Monday on Route 20 in Shrewsbury.

Col. Marian McGovern, the commander of the state police, was waiting at a red light when authorities said her unmarked cruiser was rear-ended by Sclamo.

State police said McGovern, who wasn't hurt, got out of her cruiser to check on the other driver and determined that Sclamo was drunk.

McGovern called another cruiser to the scene and Sclamo was arrested.

According to prosecutors, she has four previous drunken driving offenses on her record.  She was sent to prison twice and served three-and-a-half years.  Her last offense was in 1998.

Sclamo is due back in court November 1.
