'Curious' About Summer Construction On I-93

'Curious' About Summer Construction On I-93WBZ

Summer construction is causing massive backups at night, and particularly on a certain stretch of Interstate 93 toward Braintree where it's often bumper to bumper in the middle of the night.

That has Matt Curious:

"Why has it taken so long for the repaving project on the southeast expressway to be completed? When will this work be done?"

It's construction season in New England, and all around us there are projects that seem to take too long. The Office of Transportation says it has two primary projects currently underway on I-93 in the Boston metro area.

Both are major resurfacing projects -- one goes from Somerville through Medford to Stoneham.

The other from the South Bay Mall to the Braintree split.

Here's the news those who get stuck in it don't want to hear: both of these projects will extend through the summer.

And for some there is no way to avoid it. The lousy weather hasn't helped construction crews make record time.

Here's the problem for work crews: when is it the right time for construction? The work has to get done sometime.

Drivers say the delays go anywhere from a half hour to nearly two hours.
