'Curious' About Election Day Rules

Voting in this year's election has already been record breaking. Large numbers of people have voted early or by absentee ballot across the country.

That made Jay from Danvers curious. He asked on WBZ's Curiosity web site, "what happens to all the votes cast so far in these early elections?"

We spoke to the Secretary of State's office and in Massachusetts absentee ballots are kept by the community where the vote is cast and they are not counted until after the polls close Tuesday night.

Another WBZ viewer was curious about voting hours. With a record turnout expected Tuesday, it is important everybody is clear on that.

Julie from Westminster asked, "are all the polling locations open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.?"

Actually, she is off by one hour. By law voting booths must open no later than 7 a.m. and stay open until 8 p.m. However, communities have the option to open as early as 5:45 a.m.
