Developer to scale back high-rise project

Chiofaro Developers

A downtown Boston developer unveiled scaled down plans for "Aquarium Place", a project that would be located right next to the Greenway.

Donald Chiofaro says his latest revision of the Harbor Garage redevelopment, would include a pair of towers 470 feet and 615 feet high, respectively.

The billion dollar plan is about 20 percent smaller than his intial plan (pictured above) but is still taller than the city's 200-foot building limit for the site.

The revised towers, which would contain offices, a hotel, and residences, are more angular than before, twisting upward to sloped rooftops.

Chiofaro claims the project would generate 7,000 new jobs and $20 million in annual tax revenue for the city.

Chiofaro says he thinks latest version can open the channels of communication between his firm and the city, which has not been presented with the new plans.
