It's an alternative to a typical education...home schooling for your kids.
The quality of the learning environment is an integral factor in your child's education, says Susan Wise Bauer, author, along with her mother, Jessie Wise, of "The Well-Trained Mind, A Guide to Classical Education at Home." Bauer, who teaches literature at the College of William and Mary, was home schooled herself and is now home schooling her four children. She says what's thought of as a traditional public education doesn't work for everyone.
But are parents qualified to teach their children?
And what about the higher grades, like high school? Bauer says the approach then changes a bit.
