MWRA repairs underway on damaged main

Work is underway in Weston on the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority water main that ruptured this Spring.

A portion of the coupling that caused the break is still lodged under the pipe, but the MWRA has decided to leave it in place and cover the pipe.  Authorities say leaving the pipe exposed poses an unnecessary risk and recovering the damaged coupling, which has been replaced, would be too risky and too costly.

Crews will cut off the exposed portion of the coupling and then cover the exposed pipe.

The water main break on May 1 cut off water to thousands of customers and forced thousands more to live under a boil water advisory for several days.
