NH cops, FBI charge MA man in GPS thefts

A Massachusetts man is facing federal charges he led what's being described as an interstate theft ring that stole about $125,000 worth of GPS equipment from parked cars at a Portsmouth, N.H., car dealership.

Forty-three-year-old Darren A. Barboza of Quincy, Mass., has been indicted on felony charges of interstate transportation of stolen property and conspiracy.

The Portsmouth Herald says Barboza is a lead player in an organized ring operating throughout New England.

Portsmouth Police Capt. Corey MacDonald said Barboza's arrest was part of an ongoing investigation that involved other unnamed subjects facing similar charges in Massachusetts.

Barboza is being held without bail at the Strafford County Jail awaiting trial.
