Boston to Newport News fatal train/vehicle crash

One person has died after an Amtrak train hit a vehicle near Williamsburg.

The driver of a vehicle was killed in the accident just before noon Saturday.

James City County Fire Department spokesman Billy Apperson said two train passengers were transported to a local hospital for heat exhaustion. None of the 135 passengers were injured in the crash.

Amtrak spokeswoman Karina Romero said the train was en route from Boston to Newport News.

Authorities are not releasing the identity of the driver, who was alone in the vehicle.

Train passengers were being transported by bus to their destinations. Romero said Amtrak was working to find a train to make the northbound trip later in the day because the train involved in the crash was too damaged to make the trip.
