We're nearly halfway through the summer and already your grand plans to learn how to surf, teach yourself Spanish in your free time and finally take up Crossfit have proven to be as ambitious and unattainable as that screenplay you wrote three pages of four years ago. But if it's something new you're looking for, all you have to do is make your way to Fenway for a Down-South experience at Loretta's Last Call.
Dolly Parton meets Al Swearengen at this brand-new joint where you can grab a seat at the bar, communal tables or just an old-fashioned private table and take down a variety of Southern-influenced eats from famed New England chef Zak Lindgren.

Taking over the former La Verdad space on Lansdowne Street, the newest entry from the eclectic Lyons Group (Sonsie, Game On!, Scampo) provides a welcome Southern flair to the Fens with a Nashville-inspired dining room complete with wagon-wheel chandeliers, walls covered in country music record covers and photos, an exposed, pink ceiling, and a stage for live music every Thursday-Saturday.
Whether you're born and bred 'round these parts or have been transplanted from Dixie, you'll be plenty satisfied with Loretta's menu, which includes treats like lobster grit cakes, a fried baloney sandwich, four varieties of fried chicken, and entrees like the slow-cooked brisket plate, Southern fish fry or 12-ounce rib-eye with tobacco onions.

Of course it wouldn't truly be a Southern establishment without a proper bar, and Loretta's excels in that area with seven kinds of moonshine, 29 whiskeys, over 25 varieties of beer, and thirst-quenching cocktails like Front Porch Sweet Tea (peach moonshine, sweet tea, lemonade and lemon), the Beesting (honey simple, mint, lemon juice, iced tea, bourbon and a sugar rim) or a Pepper Jelly Margarita.
Sure beats Crossfit…
