Make your way down to the Charles River to experience the fun and excitement of the Head of the Charles Regatta. This two-day rowing event is the largest in the world, and attracts more than 300,000 spectators and more than 9,000 athletes. Whether you are participating, observing or volunteering, this event promises two action-packed days of racing. Don’t miss out as medals are awarded at the Rowing and Fitness Expo during the Head of the Charles Awards Ceremonies, which also includes special presenters and raffles.
Spectators are encouraged to use public transportation as the event is close to T stops: Harvard and Central on the Red line, and BU Central on the Green line. Several bus routes also travel near the course. Complimentary shuttles are available, which are provided by the Regatta, and run throughout the course. The GPS address for drivers is 1225 Soldiers Field Road, Brighton, MA 02135, but you can watch from just about anywhere along the banks of the Charles River.
Eliot Bridge Enclosure
Price: $90 per day/$150 weekendDine in style while observing the Head of the Charles Regatta. Patrons of this private-access hospitality tent will enjoy beer, soda, fine wine and a unique dining experience. The Enclosure is located upstream from the Eliot Bridge, and sits at the water’s edge. It is only a short walk from both the Rowing and Fitness Expo and the Finish Area Launch Site. Tickets include open access to the tent, morning breakfast items and coffee, and a buffet lunch with two gratis drink tickets.
Rowing and Fitness Expo
Date: Oct. 19 to Oct. 21
Hours: Opens for business October 19, 12 p.m. and runs through whole Regatta
The Rowing and Fitness Expo is comprised of more than 70 vendors, and is located in Christian Herter Park in Allston. Vendors are situated in and around the big-top tent, which is also the location of the Awards Ceremonies and the Heroic Rower Stage. Vendors offer rowing equipment, food, boat manufacturers and rowing apparel. Top companies such as Clif Bar, Sperry Top-Sider and Brooks Brothers have products for sale and on display.
Price: freeThe Weld Exhibition is located between the Weeks and Lars Anderson Bridges. It is the halfway point of the race, which makes it a great place to sit and watch the action. The sponsors of the Head of the Charles are lined up along the riverbank here and offer free samples of their local flavors. Check race results, purchase merchandise, and pick up a Regatta program at this lively site.

Price: $5Spectators and competitors alike are welcome to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere that Reunion Village offers. The Village is located at the halfway point on the Boston side of the Charles directly across from the Weld Exhibition, which again makes this a perfect viewing spot. Enjoy beer, wine, food and refreshments, along with play-by-play commentary of the race. This private-access tent is within walking distance of public transportation and Harvard Square.
The Head of the Charles Regatta is made possible by more than 1,400 volunteers. These volunteers are divided among 30 committees who oversee everything from registration to river control.
