Boston’s Flirt Fest has been an anti-Valentine’s Day institution in the city for a number of years now, with successful singles nights held every year going back to 2009. The 2012 installment was held at the Bell In Hand Tavern on Union Street near Faneuil Hall. It brought together Boston’s flirt-friendly singles for a night of shenanigans designed to celebrate the single life and all of its respective freedoms. Judging by the amount of success enjoyed by Flirt Fest in the past, 2013 looks to be an even bigger and better year for Boston singles.

Boston’s Pub Crawl has existed since 2003, aiming to bring together Boston-area friends for a night of bar crawling — all while donating money to great causes and charities throughout the city. The Valentine’s Day Pub Crawl mixes together city singles for a crawl in the Faneuil Hall area, designed to drink away the holiday blues, while at the same time celebrating the single life in a boisterous group setting. As only one of the organization’s themed pub crawls, this Valentine’s Day party, featuring drink specials and free grub along the way, is a guaranteed good time for those looking for a little inebriated forgetfulness.

In what has become a tradition for Boston’s Howl at the Moon location, Feb. 14 is yet another anti-Valentine’s Day celebration for the city’s dueling piano bar. It adapts themed drink specials — dedicated to ex-boy and girlfriends, naturally — to the menu, while Howl’s expert piano players regale the crowd with such anti-Valentine’s hits as Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You” to the tune of clinking bottles and cans.

It sure isn’t an average night out on a Valentine’s Day, but for the adventurous singles out there in Boston, the city’s Gypsy Rose Dance Studio — named after the godmother of burlesque, Gypsy Rose Lee — offers pole dancing classes for those seeking a sexy alternative to dreary solo dinners or drunken, possibly regrettable nights out on the town. The Gypsy Rose instructors provide customers with floor training and pole instruction during the 1.5-hour class, promising fond memories for many-a-Valentine’s Day to come.
