Boston's Best Upcoming Exhibits For Kids

With kids out of school this summer, you may be thinking about some fun things to do with them. Below are some pretty awesome exhibits to take your children to. Not only will kids have a great time, but they will also be able to learn about new things from animals to filmmaking, to science and space. There is certainly something for everyone — and something for kids of any age — to enjoy.

The penguin exhibit at the New England Aquarium is a great place to take kids. Not only is the aquarium a super fun place to spend the day, but they have a pretty large penguin pool, and there is almost always something going on -- the black and whites are either swimming, eating, sleeping or squawking! For some added excitement, try to head to the penguin exhibit during feeding time.

Running through October, the Community Arts Initiative at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston give kids an opportunity to explore creativity. Groups of kids will learn about the fundamental elements of various works of art as they explore different pieces that showcase line, shape, form, color, value and texture. You must purchase tickets for this exhibit. Museum members are able to participate without an additional charge.

Kids of all ages will enjoy learning about camels at the Franklin Park Zoo this spring and summer. Not only where there be a lot of information to take in, but camel rides will be offered for about $10. Kids will learn about the history of camels, where they live in the world and how they survive in the harsh desert climate.

Head over to the Harvard Museum of Natural History where kids and teens will have a great time at the newly opened Birds Of The World gallery. There, they will learn about all different species of birds of all different shapes and sizes. From the small hummingbird to the 10-foot-high elephant bird, there is quite a lot to see here. There are about 200 different mounted bird specimens to check out.

Children under the age of 18 will pay an $8 admission fee. Adults will pay $12. Anyone with a Harvard Student I.D. will get a discount.

Here is a chance to really be one with nature. At the Museum of Science's Butterfly Garden, kids of all ages can enter a world where all different species of butterflies fly amongst various exotic plants — and go where they please within their habitat. The exciting exhibit offers an up close and personal look at some of these beautiful insects. A separate ticket is required for entry to this exhibit ($6 for an adult, $5 for a child).
