Salons are often seen as a woman’s game, but men need haircuts too. Many men get their hair cut much more often than women and enjoy a friendly, not-overly feminine atmosphere. Sure, there are plenty of corner barbershops around the city, but when it comes time to get a serious haircut, these are the salons that have customers walking out the door looking like a million bucks.

Philip’s is a cross between a neighborhood barbershop and a high-end salon. The staff is small and familiar, but patrons are sure to walk out the door with a top-notch haircut. Plus, compared to many salons in Boston, Philip’s is quite affordable, making it perfect for recent grads or anyone on a budget. Since it is located in the heart of the North End, customers can always treat themselves to a cannoli at Mike’s Pastry on their way home.

However, the salon’s success can be attributed to more than just a celebrity status. Shag is very active on social media, hosts events and features a killer blog.
