There are beautiful and permanent plantings scattered throughout the Boston Public Garden. The flowering plants and bushes are rotated by season to display the most colorful blooms. The spring season features many varieties of roses, various bulbs and beautifully flowering shrubs. In addition to the flowering plants, there are many different native and transplanted trees like the weeping willows on the banks of the Swan Boat pond, ginkgo trees, horse chestnuts and one California redwood.

The Arnold Arboretum is the oldest public arboretum in North America. This tranquil sanctuary is located on the outskirts of the city. The relaxing and expansive grounds host a massive collection of rhododendrons, roses, lilacs, azaleas and wild flowers throughout the beautifully maintained and historical arboretum. There are 160 species of lilacs on display for visitors to enjoy.

The Emerald Necklace Conservancy is a park system within the city where visitors can relax and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. The Keller Rose Garden was recently rejuvenated and is the centerpiece of the landscape with its beautiful paths and planting beds. There are more than 1,500 roses in 200 different varieties on display in the Keller Rose garden, which surround a beautifully restored 1930's fountain and statuary. There are also flowering cherry trees and crabapple trees lining the walking paths in this magnificent garden. Narrated Evening Garden Strolls are a popular event on those warm evenings in the city.

Spectacular floral arrangements, inspired by works of art throughout the museum, are on display at the Museum of Fine Arts during Art In Bloom. The arrangements are placed close to the works of art for the visitors to enjoy on their tour of the museum. There are also floral design lectures, master classes and demonstrations throughout the course of the exhibition. The floral arrangements are designed and created by garden club members and professional floral designers from around New England.
