Boston's Best Adult Computer Classes

Learning about computers in 2016 is necessary, since the world depends on them so much. Whether you know the basics and want to advance, or you've never browsed the internet before, you may want to check out some of the best computer classes offered in Boston. While many of these classes are free and can be fun, there are also classes with fees that offer folks a way to advance in their respective careers.

The Boston Public Library offers various computer and technology classes at the Central Library throughout the year. Whether you're a beginner or you're looking to learn some new skills, there are quite a few options to choose from. If you'd like to learn how to get the most out of Gmail, there's a class for that... or, if you want to learn about social media and networking cites like Facebook, there is a class on that as well. You'll want to check the BPL website for more information, as the offered class list is updated on a monthly basis. Best of all? These classes are free to the public.

If you are looking to advance your skills in Excel, Wordpress or Adobe, check out the course offerings at the Boston Center for Adult Education. These courses can run you about $100, but the information you receive and the skills that you will learn can help you advance your career. Many of the classes are about four sessions and are offered at convenient times. Some classes take place on Saturdays, while others are offered after work hours (6:45 - 8:45 p.m.).

At the Cambridge Center for Adult Education, you can choose from a wide array of courses. For someone who is really interested in gaining a skill set in computer technology, ONLC is the place. They offer a wide variety of courses that are taught by a remote instructor. The training center also offers various exams for certification in multiple areas. Not only do these things look great on a resume, but some businesses actually require them. Classes at ONLC are on the expensive side (about $300 per class), but are worth it if that's what you need to advance your career.

There are 12-week computer classes offered at the Cambridge Public Library several times a year. There is an introduction to computers class for beginners with no knowledge of how computers work: Computers I, which is an introduction to Word, internet and e-mail, and Computers II, which teaches students an introductory to Excel and PowerPoint and some advanced Word techniques. These classes are free to the public and run from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the library's computer lab.
