Best Wineries Near Boston

Massachusetts is not exactly known for its wine, but that doesn't mean there aren't great places to drink it. The state has many wineries, some of which are within an hour of Boston. Visitors can take a day or even a weekend away to enjoy a local vintage. No matter which direction wine lovers want to go, there is a worthy winery along the way.

Nashoba Winery is an all-purpose venue that every wine lover in the area should visit. There is an orchard as well as a restaurant. Not to mention it's consistently voted one of the best places to be married in the state. Even people who do not like wine can enjoy a tour of the grounds or get something to eat at J's Restaurant. Those who do not want to host their own events can still attend live shows as well. Keep an eye out for upcoming events to fully appreciate the nightlife at Nashoba Valley.

Turtle Creek is an award-winning winery with vintages wine lovers can purchase at local stores. It also does tours and tastings at its Lincoln location. It's a small venue that cannot host parties or large tours, but can offer a personal tour from a wine maker at very low cost. Tours are two hours and tastings are one hour at $20 and $10 respectively.

For those who want a beautiful location by the water and local wine, Plymouth Bay Winery is a good choice. This winery does a lot of fun stuff, such as offers complementary recipes to use with their wines and a place for wine cocktail makers to post their Plymouth Bay Winery creations. A small sampling is only $3 per person and a larger one only $6 per person. There are 10 vintages from which to choose, most of which are fruity and regional.

Alfalfa Farm is a family wine business that hosts parties for up to 80 people. Open wine tastings are also available, so fans can pop in and taste one of the farm's many wines anytime. Industry hopefuls can even take classes at the vineyard through North Shore Community College and there are internships available as well.

Mill River Wines started with a chemist and a winemaker realizing what those two fields have in common. A cider brewery was turned into a winery, and award-winning wines came out. Guests can come visit the tasting room, walk in the vineyard, check out the gift shop or attend live events. There is plenty to do at the winery and several places to buy the wine if a quiet evening at home is what is on the agenda.
