Best Public Pools In The Boston Suburbs

During the summer months, finding a place to swim can be a problem. This is especially true near the city, where there are fewer swimming ponds. The Boston suburbs offer plenty of public swimming pools as an alternative, some of which are free to use. Finding the best ones will help keep families cool when the temperatures go up, and are a great place to get exercise and teach the kids to swim.

Lt. Dennis C. Holland Memorial Swimming & Wading Pool

The Lt. Dennis C. Holland Memorial Pool is a large public pool that is open from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. for public swims. For one hour before public opening, it is open for learners. For an hour after, it is open for families with children under 18 years of age. There are lane lines, so swimmers can do laps for exercise. Swimmers can also utilize the locker rooms, showers and offered activities such as physical therapy

Veterans Memorial Swimming & Wading Pool At Magazine Beach

On Magazine Beach, there is a lengthy rectangular pool for public use. It is open daily during the summer from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. During that time, guests can get private swim lessons, exercise, do physical therapy or just lounge in the cool water. There are two lanes for lap swimming. The facility also has locker rooms and showers available.

The Latta Brothers Memorial Swimming & Wading Pool is indoors, but is still only open to the public during the summer months. Swimming lessons and physical therapy are a few of the activities possible at this pool. There are also lane lines, shower rooms and locker rooms. The pool is near Twin City Plaza, so shopping and dining is just a few minutes from the parking lot.

From 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. people can beat the heat at the Allied Veterans Memorial Swimming & Wading Pool. The shape is mostly rectangular with a half-circle where less confident swimmers can enter the water and stay in a relatively shallow area. The facilities include showers and a locker room for guests. Kick boards and swim lanes make it possible to get some lap exercise in as well.

The Lawrence W. Lloyd Memorial Swimming Pool is a features swim lanes and kick boards. Guests are free to use the locker rooms and showers. Be sure to check the pool schedule ahead of time, as there is family swimming in the evening for groups with children under 18. There is also special swim time designated for beginners in the morning before the pool opens for public swims at 11 a.m.
