Best Outdoor Music Venues In Boston

Boston offers some great venues to enjoy all genres of music, but the outdoor venues are the best, especially during the warm summer season. There are a variety of venues at which to enjoy the best outside concerts in Boston, from tents to stadiums near and by Boston Harbor. Whether it is a country concert, classical music or hip-hop, there is a perfect outdoor venue somewhere in or near the city of Boston. Each venue offers its own special perspective and view, from the waterfront to a historic baseball park.

This outdoor music venue, situated at the water's edge of Boston Harbor, is a unique place to enjoy a concert. The Blue Hills Bank Pavilion is an amphitheater that seats 5,000 people at concerts, which run from May through September each year. There is a spectacular view of the Boston skyline from the Pavilion. The wide variety of entertainers who have performed at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion include LL Cool J, the Jonas Brothers, Stevie Wonder, Van Morrison and the Allman Brothers Band, just to name a few.

The Hatch Shell is quaintly located on the Charles River Esplanade in the Back Bay section of the city. It plays host to Boston's 4th of July concert with Keith Lockhart and the Boston POPS. There is a summer-long classical music series and, sometimes, other performances like The Shakespeare Company's dramatic shows happen at the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell. Sitting outside, under the stars on the banks of the Charles River, while enjoying a live concert is an inspiring and relaxing experience.

The Summer In The City Series at the beautiful Boston Harbor Hotel runs five nights a week with a specific genre performed each evening. This music series has been running for over fifteen seasons. The music choices include music from the Rat Pack era, country pop, blues , summer soul music and acoustic music followed by a movie showing on one night. The venue setting is at the back of the hotel so you can overlook the Boston Harbor while you sip a cocktail or enjoy a relaxing dinner under the stars.

The Xfinity Center is in Mansfield about 30 miles south of Boston, making it an easy ride to the concert. This outdoor amphitheater opened in the summer of 1986 and seats 12,000. The venue is open for concerts from May to September and has hosted some of the best artists in the music industry. Some of the performers who have graced the Xfinity Center stage are Dave Matthews Band, Keith Urban, Jimmy Buffet and the Coral Reefer Band, Kid Rock and KISS.

Fenway Park is Boston's most beloved baseball park which opened in April 1912 and has seen some of baseball's greatest players. This historic baseball park is home to the Boston Red Sox. The park first hosted Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles in 1973 and then began summer concerts every year starting in 2003. Some of the most famous performers in the music industry have entertained at this historic venue. Past performers include Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Justin Timberlake, Dropkick Murphys and Billy Joel.
