Best Movies Filmed In Boston

The city of Boston has become a hub for films. Over the years there have been many movies filmed in the capitol of Massachusetts. Many of them have been extremely popular. Many of your favorite actors have been in town for work and the city has been the perfect backdrop for comedy films like Fever Pitch starring Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore, The Heat starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, and both Grown Ups starring Adam Sandler. Dramas have also been filmed all over the city. Shutter Island starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Gone Baby Gone starring Casey Affleck and Morgan Freeman, or Mystic River starring Emmy Rossum and Sean Penn. All have scenes with recognizable landmarks here in Beantown.

Although The Departed is set in Boston, the majority of the movie was filmed in New York. There are a few places in Boston where you can go that are featured in the film. For instance, Matt Damon's character, Colin Sullivan, lives in a penthouse in the city. The place these scenes were filmed is located on the top floor of the library at Suffolk University Law School.

A lot of people love to walk through the public gardens in Boston, but making a stop to visit the bench where Sean Maguire (played by the late great Robin Williams) brought Will Hunting (Matt Damon) to have a talk. The bench is located on the Arlington Street side of the public gardens. When Williams passed away, people in the city flooded the bench with flowers, candles, and used chalk to write some of his most inspirational quotes on the ground in front of the bench. Williams won an Academy Award for his role in Good Will Hunting.

To visit scenes from The Fighter starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, and Amy Adams, you'll have to travel north of Boston to the city of Lowell. Dicky Eklund, a boxer from Massachusetts who once faced Sugar Ray Leonard, actually trained his brother Mickey at this location. It was only fitting that Wahlberg and Bale filmed parts of the movie here.

Head to the luxurious Back Bay hotel to check out where Tommy Lee Jones and Jeff Bridges filmed this 1994 movie. Inside you can visit OAK Long Bar + Kitchen which has received excellent reviews for their food and service.

You can't possibly think about The Town without thinking of Fenway Park. The iconic Boston-based movie filmed a total of 13 days at the home of the Boston Red Sox which is often referred as America's Most Beloved Ballpark. At the end of the film, the four main characters, Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck), James Coughlin (Jeremy Renner), Desmond Elden (Owen Burke), and Albert Magloan (Slaine), plan a heist at Fenway.
