Red Sox Trade Rumors
The Red Sox sit at .500 as they return from the All-Star break, just two and a half weeks away from the MLB trade deadline. Despite their struggles though, GM Ben Cherington doesn’t see the need to blow it all up.
Everyone from sports radio callers to national analysts seems to have come to the same conclusion: The sooner the Red Sox part ways with Youkilis, the better. How exactly did we get here?
We’ve all been thinking it, but there now appears to be some factual evidence. The Red Sox are going to try to trade third baseman Kevin Youkilis.
Despite the abundance of pitching, the Sox are reportedly still interested in adding one more arm.
Ken Rosenthal reported Friday that a rival executive said that “[Bobby] Valentine wanted Youkilis out as far back as spring training, viewing him as a liability.”
If the Red Sox are looking to trade Youkilis, he will have to play in order to prove he’s healthy, and one Chicago writer thinks that the White Sox could make a perfect trading partner for Boston.
Whether it’s for this year or for the future, the Red Sox are going to need some help to get back to being a championship contender. Fortunately, they may have a valuable trading chip that could get them some pieces.
Danny Knobler of CBSSports reports the Sox have called the Colorado Rockies to inquire about right-handed starter Ubaldo Jimenez.
