Having seen the duplication of effort of sailors doing that work, it seems almost impossible for a disaster of this scope to take place.

Braintree Family, Boston Couple Safe After Italy Cruise Shipwreck

At least seven Massachusetts residents are safe after their cruise ship ran aground off the coast of Italy on Friday night.


A photograph taken early on January 14, 2012 shows the Costa Concordia after the cruise ship with more than 4,000 people on board ran aground and keeled over off the Isola del Giglio, last night. The Costa Concordia was on a trip around the Mediterranean when it apparently hit a reef near the island of Giglio on Friday as passengers were sitting down for dinner. Some of the passengers jumped into the icy waters. The ship was on a cruise in the Mediterranean, leaving from Savona with planned stops in Civitavecchia, Palermo, Cagliari, Palma, Barcelona and Marseille,' the company said.
