While fighting looming federal spending cuts, New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan renewed her pledge Saturday to support a “high-end, highly regulated” casino to help balance the state budget.

The late entries included one surprise — a company affiliated with the principals of Baltimore-based Cornish Companies, which had not publicly expressed interest in the state before Tuesday.
Tuesday evening the State’s Gaming Commission will be holding a news conference announcing the names of the companies competing for one of the state’s casino licenses.
January 15 is the date when applications for the two licenses in Boston and Western Massachusetts are due.
