Saturday marked the third annual passion plunge in honor of 30-year-old Pete Frates who battles ALS.
Pete Frates, the inspiration of massively successful Ice Bucket Challenge, was honored Tuesday by Sports Illustrated.
So far, the Angel Foundation has raised $1.5 million but needs another $4 million.
The ALS Therapy Development Institute in Cambridge said the drug trial would’ve taken place in two years if not for the Ice Bucket Challenge.

The ALS organization has raised a record $53.3. million. That’s compared to $2.2 million raised last year during the same time.
A spokesperson for the organization based in Washington, D.C. told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Tuesday a total of $4 million has been raised nationwide since July 29.
The ice bucket challenge has been passed from several generations of the Kennedy clan to the current occupant of the White House.
