Man Holds Up Rockland Convenience Store With Hand Grenade
ROCKLAND (CBS) – Police are searching for a man who held up Tedeschi’s Food Shop with a hand grenade Friday night.
Police say a white man wearing a green bandana over his face demanded money and a pack of Camel non-filtered cigarettes from the Union Street store clerk, showed the grenade and took off running with cash.
Lieutenant Nicholas Zeoli of Rockland Police says that while real grenades are generally hard to obtain, investigators are taking the threat seriously.
“We have to assume it [the grenade] was real. The clerk assumed it was real, so we are going with that.”
The suspect is described as being around six feet tall, medium build, wearing a brown baggy long sleeve shirt, and tan cargo style pants.
Police say he also wore a green camouflage bandana over the top of his head, and a lime green bandana covering his face as well as a white ball cap with turquoise brim, with the logo Brickyard 400-lndianapolis Motor Speedway-August 5, 1995.” The hat also had light blue paint spots on the left side.
“It’s a dangerous situation- a weapon was involved,” Zeoli said. “We’re asking for some help from the community to see if they have any information that could lead to the resolution of this incident.”
If you recognize the man, call police.
