2 Injured In Fire At Dorchester Triple-Decker
BOSTON (CBS) – Firefighters quickly knocked down heavy flames at a Dorchester triple-decker Wednesday morning. Two people were injured during the fire.
Flames broke out around 7:45 a.m. on Columbia Road near Elder Street in Dorchester. The heavy fire was knocked down within 30 minutes.
Four people were evacuated from the second floor, and four others were evacuated from the third. Deputy Chief Michael Doherty says one of those people was injured, along with one firefighter who suffered a leg injury on a fire ladder.
Firefighters focused their efforts on the third floor of the building.
Eight residents were displaced by the fire, which caused about $750,000 in damage.
"I don't know if I'll open today or tomorrow but that's fine. The main thing is everybody's good, everybody's fine," said Laura Correia, who runs a business on the first floor.
David Pacini is one the victims. He spent part of his morning digging through a wet, charred stack of personal papers looking for his passport.
"It's the only thing that made it out," said Pacini. "I had my birth certificate, I had diploma in here. Just stuff I'll never be able to get back."
Pacini lives on the third floor of the building with several roommates.
He says he was headed to work, when one of them called him to inform him of the fire.
"I was on the train, and I got that call and that was my first thought; 'I hope everyone made it out'," he said.
