Man Shot By Police After Opening Fire On Officers

PLYMOUTH (CBS) – A man who opened fire on police officers in Plymouth Thursday night was shot and rushed to the hospital.

Police say they responded to a domestic disturbance between a husband and wife on Federal Furnace Road at about 6:10 pm. A woman reported that shots were fired into her vehicle. She was able to drive away and call police.

When officers arrived, a man began shooting at them.

"Upon arrival, the officers were confronted by a male subject who stepped out of the residence and immediately began firing in the direction at the officers," Plymouth Police Chief Michael E. Botieri said.

The officers returned fire, hitting the suspect, identified as a 36-year-old man.

The man was taken to Plymouth Airport and MedFlighted to Boston Medical Center. His condition is unknown at this time.

No officers were struck, but seven officers were transported to the hospital as a precaution.
