BOSTON (CBS) – The Kony Ealy era did not last long in New England.

As first reported by Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Patriots released the defensive end on Saturday.

The Patriots confirmed the news a short time later.

New England traded back eight spots in this year’s draft to acquire Ealy from the Carolina Panthers.

Earlier this week rumors surfaced that the team had been gauging trade interest for Ealy.
