Shark Sighting Closes 2 Chatham Beaches

CHATHAM (CBS) — Authorities closed two Cape Cod Beaches Thursday due to a shark sighting.

Both Lighthouse and Andrew Harding’s beaches have been shut down, Chatham police tweeted.

The Chatham Harbormaster told WBZ-TV that a shark was seen eating a seal near shore.

On Wednesday, a shark sighting caused Nauset Beach in Orleans to close. On Monday, 10 great white shark sightings there also forced swimmers out of the water.

Nauset Beach was actually closed earlier that day for two hours. Skomal came out at about 10:00AM after a spotter plane spotted great whites in the water. after an hour, the beach was closed. Nauset was opened back up at about 1:00. I have photos of Skomal tagging/identifying sharks. So all in all, it lasted 3 hours. I also have photos of the Coast Guard Aux. coming out with the white balloon to test it out. Not sure why this story wasn’t in the news.
