5k Held To Honor Slain Princeton Jogger
PRINCETON (CBS) -- Hundreds ran or walked up Wachusett Mountain Saturday for a 5k event in honor of a woman murdered while jogging in Princeton last year.
Vanessa Marcotte was 27 when she was killed while jogging near her parents' home on August 8, 2016.
The murder of the Google executive and 2011 Boston College grad rocked the small town of about 4,000.
Saturday's run, put on by The Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation, was the first one made in Marcotte's memory.
The date was chosen because it would have been her 28th birthday.
The foundation had more than 1,000 registrants, and raised about $70,000.
Money raised from the run will be donated to the foundation in her name.
