Norwood Police Officers Save Woman From Drowning

NORWOOD (CBS) -- Two Norwood police officers are being called heroes after they were able to save a woman from drowning in Ellis Pond on Wednesday.

When the men got to the pond, they immediately removed their duty belts (which weigh up to 30 pounds), jumped into the water, swam 20-25 feet to the 57-year-old woman and were able to pull her back to shore, the police department said.

Norwood Police Chief Bill Brooks took to Twitter after the incident.

The responding officers were brothers, Kevin Riley and Brian Riley.

It began around 8:20 a.m. when Norwood Police responded to a well-being check at someone's home but found that no one was there.

A few hours later, police got a call that an unresponsive person was in the water of Ellis Pond.

It was later learned that the woman saved from Ellis Pond was the subject of the well-being check.

The woman was transported to the hospital. Her condition is not known at this time.
