Woburn Crews Work To Repair Dam

WOBURN (CBS) - Crews were placing sandbags in Horn Pond and detouring cars as they made repairs around a dam after a breach Thursday afternoon.

Lake Ave was closed at Arlington Road as workers shore up the dam, making sure the water rush did not happen again.

Workers using a crane quickly began putting large sandbags in place to stop the water. Crews were already working on the main dam - adding another grate to it. The water found a way through the temporary dam surrounding the construction.

A baseball field downstream was flooded, but Woburn Mayor Scott Galvin said no homes were in danger.

"There is no danger to anybody on the other side of the river," said Mayor Galvin. "The water is flowing fine, really it's just for precaution that's all."

Horn Pond is a popular recreational spot with two miles of walking trail around it.

Lake Ave was closed for several hours Thursday night. Workers continue to repair the dam Friday.
