BOSTON (CBS) – The Seaport District in Boston will be getting a new and unique look.

Developers released a rendering of a new 18-floor mixed-use building that is scheduled to be completed in 2020.

Construction begins on the building, named 88 Seaport, in fall 2018.

The building will be located at 88 Seaport Blvd. and features 425,000 square feet of office space, 60,000 square feet of retail, and 5,000 feet of "civic/cultural" use.

Massachusetts-based WS Development released plans for the new high rise along with architecture firm OMA.

Designers say the building boasts a "unique series of cascading exterior terraces and a grand architectural gesture towards Fan Pier Green and the water's edge."

"We are committed to bringing world-class architecture to Boston's Seaport – architecture that will stand the test of time. Together with the brilliant team at OMA, we will create a unique urban environment that advances Boston's innovation economy and celebrates great urban design," said Yanni Tsipis, senior vice president of Seaport at WS Development.

The design was inspired by projects in Tokyo, Toronto and other locations around the world.
