Freight Train From Worcester Crashes Through Barrier Onto Providence Street

PROVIDENCE (CBS) – A train derailment has shut down part of a busy road in Providence.

A freight train from Worcester jumped the tracks around 1 a.m. Wednesday and crashed through a concrete barrier and fence before finally stopping in the middle of Allens Avenue.

Part of that road will likely be closed for the day.

Authorities say at least one car carrying about 30,000 gallons of ethanol went off the tracks.

Ethanol is highly flammable.

Police do not believe any of the chemical spilled.
