Driver Dead After Crashing Stolen Minivan Into MBTA Bus

BOSTON (CBS) – One person died and multiple people were injured in a Dorchester crash involving a stolen minivan and an MBTA bus.

The crash was reported around 10 a.m. on Saturday in the area of Talbot and Lithgow Streets.

Police said it appears the man driving a minivan suffered a medical emergency and drove into the MBTA head on.

Transit Police said the bus was stopped when the van slammed into it.

The driver of the minivan, who police did not yet identify, was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. Friends who gathered at the scene Saturday night said the man who died was 20 years old.

The bus driver and four passengers were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Neighbors say some of the passengers were really shaken up. "A young teenage girl who probably was getting off the bus and she was thrown and fell frontwards and hurt her neck," a witness said. "Yeah, she was in pain and the bus driver was shaken up I felt so bad for him."

Boston Police confirmed Saturday afternoon that the minivan had been reported stolen out of Quincy on Friday.
