Driver Arrested After Fatal Hit & Run Crash In Braintree

BRAINTREE (CBS) – Police have arrested the driver who was allegedly involved in a fatal hit and run crash Thursday in Braintree.

Irina Hyde, 62, was hit around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Shaw and Commercial Streets. She was rushed to an area hospital, but died Friday morning.

Tony Hyde was standing just yards away from the spot where his wife died. She was hit while crossing the street after she got off work at a nursing home.

"She was the most wonderful person I ever knew, fantastic woman, dedicated worker, mother, grandmother, she did it all," Tony Hyde said.

A witness said after Irena was struck, the car slowed down and then took off. Police released a photo of a grill from a Mazda 626 that was found at the crash scene. The driver, 34-year-old Ryan Brady of Braintree, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

At Royal Nursing Home, Irena's coworkers say she was always smiling. "Never had a frown," said Todd Funk. "She always had a smile on her face. Very, very, very kind individual."

Brady will be arraigned in Quincy District Court on Monday.
