Central Mass. Residents Roll With New Snowfall

FITCHBURG (CBS) -- With the winter weather that arrived late Sunday night into Monday morning, snow blowing season is officially here.

"We're New Englanders. You have to expect it, right?," one man clearing snow told WBZ-TV.

While overnight flurries quickly turned to rain around Boston, cities and towns further west are blanketed in white. About five inches fell in Fitchburg.

The wintry mix created a treacherous drive for some on Route 2. Drivers say they're taking extra precautions.

"Just paying attention and driving safe. Don't tailgate," one said.

The Fitchburg fire chief said it was a busy morning for first responders. And he's asking everyone to be extra careful in these slippery conditions.

"First storms, people have to get used to them and figure out how to drive again. Just remember take your time, especially at intersections. You're not going to stop as fast as you usually do," Fire Chief Kevin Roy told WBZ.

Some may be excited the snow is finally here. But if you're not ready for the slush and the cold, you can always follow in the footsteps of snow bird Karen Webb.

"I'm heading for Florida, so I don't care about it. Ha-ha," she said.
