Brandon Meriweather Discusses Long-Standing Beef With Brandon Marshall

BOSTON (CBS) -- Brandon Meriweather never holds back his feelings, making his weekly interview with Toucher & Rich must-listen radio.

On Wednesday, Meriweather's longstanding beef with New York Jets receiver Brandon Marshall resurfaced during the interview, and it sounds like the former safety is still kind of fed up with what Marshall has said about him and his playing style in the past.

First, a quick refresher course on the beef: Marshall (then on the Chicago Bears) took exception to Meriweather (a member of the Washington Redskins) leading with his helmet on a few different occasions during a game, and let his feelings be known afterwards.

"Guys like that really don't understand that there is life after football. I respect the league trying to better our game and guys like that, maybe he needs to get suspended or taken out of the game completely," said Marshall.

Meriweather was suspended for his actions, and tried to reach out to Marshall to clear the air. But following his return, things got a little personal.

"Listen, everybody's got their opinion of things, you know. Everybody's got their opinion. He feels like, you know, I need to be kicked out of the league. I feel like, people who beat their girlfriends should be kicked out of the league too," Meriweather fired back. "You tell me who you'd rather have: Somebody who plays aggressive on the field, or somebody who beats up their girlfriend. Everybody's got their opinion. That's mine. He's got his."

Marshall was found not-guilty on two counts of simple battery stemming from a 2008 incident with his then-girlfriend.

On Wednesday, Meriweather went into further detail about his feud with Marshall on Toucher & Rich.

"Personally, I think Brandon says stuff and never has a consequence for what he says," he said. "My problem is not critiquing players. I'm all for that. If i played like trash, you say that.

"What he was saying about me, it messed with my life; the food on my kid's plate. That's going too far," explained Meriweather. "He was just saying how I should be kicked out of the league for tackling. But then, and this was my problem with what he said, after the game he came up to me, we was laughing and he was joking, and he said nothing. But as soon as you get a microphone in your face, you say all this mess. That's the problem I have."

Meriweather would rather discuss things with Marshall in person rather than through the media or on social media.

"I don't talk mess on social media. I might throw in a slick comment or two, but I'm not that guy. I'm the guy who, I'll call you or come and see you," he said. "I wont call you and be like 'What do you have to say?' I'll be like 'I'm going to be in your city tomorrow.' That's the more grown-up, man thing to do."

Meriweather also has a beef with current Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett, who was a teammate of Marshall's when Meriweather delivered those hits and had some things to say about him. It doesn't sound like Meriweather is a very big fan of Bennett.

"Child please. He was... Listen, he's a nobody to me, man," said Meriweather. "I was in Chicago after he said that, too. He said, 'If I'm around, him I'd punch him in the face.' After we played them, I told them both I'd be in Chicago the next day."
