Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman All Absent From Patriots Practice

BOSTON (CBS) -- Another week, another Wednesday absence for Tom Brady on the Patriots' practice field.

The quarterback, who has been dealing with some swelling and pain in his right quad and knee, was not partaking in practice with his teammates on Wednesday afternoon. Neither was tight end Rob Gronkowski, who suffered a chest injury in the same game that Brady got hurt 17 days ago and suffered a new injury to his back in his return to the field this past Sunday.

Last week, Brady missed practices on both Wednesday and Thursday but still managed to practice on Friday and play on Sunday. After the victory over the New York Jets, Brady admitted that it had been a difficult week for him to get through.

"I'm happy the week's over. That was a long week," Brady said on Sunday evening. "I think everybody's battling through different things and you just do the best you can do. It's a long season, and every week starts fresh again. And, you know, I'm glad it's over. And I'm glad we won."

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reported that Brady's injury required "round-the-clock treatment" last week, and it remains possible that Brady's in a similar situation this week.

The other notable absence at Wednesday's practice was Julian Edelman, for reasons yet to be explained.

Safety/special teamer Jordan Richards, who suffered a leg injury on Sunday, was also absent.

On the positive front, the Patriots welcomed rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett back to the practice field, signaling that he will be the player chosen to be activated off injured reserve this season. Special teams captain Matthew Slater, who suffered a foot injury vs. San Francisco two games ago, also returned to practice.
