Teen Charged With Killing Mother In Brockton Home

BROCKTON (CBS) -- An 18-year-old has been charged in the stabbing death of his mother in Brockton.

Police say Frantz Polynice stabbed his mother, 44-year-old Mania Meneide, inside a Merritt Avenue home Wednesday afternoon.

The stabbing happened around 1 p.m., according to police, while the suspect's grandmother was also in the home. The grandmother was not hurt, and ran outside to get help.

Neighbor Maryanne Monteiro heard her cries.

"I knew it was something bad only because she was wailing and screaming, and she did say 911, 911," Monteiro said.

"She just grabbed my hand and started pulling me towards the house," she said. "The son, the grandson came lunging at us and I pulled her out of there."

When emergency crews arrived, the son was sitting outside on the home's deck.

"They assessed him real quick and he didn't do anything as far as I could tell and they just went around him, around the back side of the deck, went inside of the house, put him on top of the car and sat on him until the cops got here," Monteiro said.

Other neighbors tried to console the grandmother.

"We just tried to keep the grandmother, she kept trying to get to the house," neighbor Mark Powers said. "(We) just tried to keep her, you know, warm."

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz called the case tragic.

"We need to find out exactly what happened, but a mother-son relationship and for it to end this way, it's terrible, it's tragic, and we need to know what happened," he said.

The motive for this alleged attack is so far unclear.

Polynice is charged with murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and is scheduled to be arraigned at Brockton District Court Thursday morning.
