Rick Porcello Named AL Comeback Player Of The Year

BOSTON (CBS) -- Another day, another offseason award for Red Sox pitcher Rick Porcello.

Porcello was named the American League's Comeback Player of the Year on Tuesday, another trophy for his mantle after finishing the 2016 season at 22-4 with a 3.15 ERA.

It was a huge bounce-back year for the Boston righty, who went 9-15 with a 4.92 ERA in his first season with the Red Sox in 2015. His 22 wins and 5.91 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 2016 led all of baseball, helping Porcello win the AL Cy Young award earlier this month. He was also named the American League's Pitcher of the Year at the Players Choice Awards.

Porcello becomes the first Red Sox player to win Comeback Player of the Year honors since Jacoby Ellsbury did so back in 2011. Washington Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon won the award over in the National League.
