Leicester Police: Man Tried To Lure Children With Playstation 4

LEICESTER (CBS) -- Authorities are searching for a driver who allegedly tried to lure two boys with a video game system over the weekend.

The boys' parents did not want to show their faces on camera, but did want to share their story so other parents can be on the lookout.

"It's unnerving, very rattling, because you try so hard to keep your kids safe and this happens," the boys' mother told WBZ-TV's Anna Meiler.

Her sons were delivering popcorn for the Boy Scouts in the area of Green and Baldwin Streets Saturday afternoon.

"My oldest was closer to the road, and a car pulled over to the road and waved him over," said the boys' mother.

Police said the man held up what looked like a Playstation 4 and waved for the child to come over to the car.

Investigators said the child did not approach the car, and instead walked away.

"My son didn't go over, didn't do anything, and the guy just took off from there," the boys' father said.

The man was described as being about 20, and is said to have been driving a burgundy 4-door, large-style vehicle with two red bumper stickers on the bumper.

Leicester Police said the driver isn't wanted, but that they would like to talk to him about the incident.

The parents said the one comforting thing about the encounter was that their oldest son knew exactly how to react.

"Back away and go tell mom and dad," their mother said.

The parents called 911 right away.

In the meantime, the family says they'll be extra careful.

"We stand outside with them, wait for the bus, just to be safe," said their mother.

"Just keeping an eye on every car that passes down the road right now," said their father. "I want to know what this person's intent was. If it was malicious, I'm hoping that something will be done."

Police said they're following several leads, and would like anyone with information about the incident to give them a call.
