Hair Cut, Stolen From Miniature Horses In Gloucester

GLOUCESTER (CBS) - Police are trying to figure why someone would cut off and steal multiple farm horses' hair.

The farm is located on Essex Avenue which is a busy road in the city of Gloucester. Part-time farmer Brent Tarr says someone trespassed when they went on his property and cut hair off from the necks and tails of his four miniature horses.

"It's very upsetting because first of all, coming on someone's property without their permission and then just doing what they did, I just don't know what they were thinking," expressed Tarr.

He explained to WBZ that this crime was not the first time. He said someone did the same exact thing a few months ago in September. The first time happened last fall.

Gloucester Police Chief John McCarthy confirmed that this is the first case of this kind they've handled in the department's history.

"Just looking at cases around the country where this happens. It's used for jewelry, it's used for theatrical productions for wigs for things like that so it could've been the intent," said Chief McCarthy.

So far no suspect information or arrests. According to police, if caught, that person could be charged with trespassing, animal endangerment, and larceny.
