Chihuahua Stolen From Portsmouth Pet Store

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (CBS) -- Police are on the lookout for a small chihuahua stolen from a Lafayette Road pet shop, and are asking for the public's help.

Police say a two-pound cream colored chihuahua was taken from Little Shop of Pets on Monday. The little pup, who has a microchip implanted in his body, is a $900 loss for the store.

At around 11 a.m. on Monday, police responded to a report from the Little Shop of Pets owner that the dog had been taken. They say it is not the first time a pet has been stolen from the store.

Police say there were no signs of a break-in, so they think somebody came into the store and took the puppy Sunday evening or Monday morning.

Workers at the store are worried because the dog requires a special diet. "We had him on a special diet, we were feeding him several times a day," said Paula Burdick. "Our concern is if he is not getting enough nutrition, being that tiny, that something could happen."

While police search, they are asking the public to look out for anybody who suddenly has a dog that looks like the stolen chihuahua, or any listings for a dog online that seem to match the pup's description. Anyone with information on the stolen dog is asked to contact Portsmouth Police at (603) 427-1500.
