WATCH: Tom Brady Threads Needle On 56-Yard TD Pass To Malcolm Mitchell

Bryan Altman

Just when you think you've seen Tom Brady make every beautiful throw imaginable in his 17-year career, he goes and does something like this.

The not so fleet of foot Brady bought himself time by scrambling/stepping up in the pocket and then delivered a strike right on the money over the head of a clueless 49ers defender to rookie WR Malcolm Mitchell, who rewarded his QB's spectacular effort by finishing the play off with a touchdown.

The touchdown was Brady's fourth on the day, the 26th time in his career he's tossed four scores in a game. It also put the Patriots up by three scores and put the game out of reach for the 49ers, who played the Pats surprisingly closely throughout much of the day.

"It was a third down pass and he was short of the sticks. When I scrambled up he wheeled, and I saw a little separation. He made a great play," Brady said after the game. "That was a phenomenal play by Malcolm and we needed it."

As for Mitchell, the rookie finished with four catches for 98 yards to lead all New England receivers.
