Underage Drinking Party Busted At $1.2M Home Up For Sale

RYE, NH (CBS) - An underage drinking party was busted inside a million dollar New Hampshire house that is up for sale.

Someone called Rye Police complaining about the noise and when officers arrived, they discovered nine teens inside.

It's a $1.2 million home with a gorgeous 5800 square foot interior. But police say that's not why it was chosen.

"The house is for sale, they knew nobody would be there," said Rye Police Chief Kevin Walsh.

It's been on the market since January and vacant for months. But on a recent Saturday night, a neighbor spotted a bunch of cars parked on the street and some teens in the yard and summoned police.

"The juveniles were snapchatting the juveniles inside the house and a bunch ran," said Chief Walsh.

Nine teens were caught, mostly 16-year olds, but twice that many escaped into the woods. Police say they left all sorts of alcohol behind and are asking for some parental help here.

"Talk to your kids, see if they were there, obviously there's a rule broken at home," Chief Walsh said. "Follow up so we don't have a repeat of it."

The teens will face charges of criminal trespass and police seem to have a pretty good idea of how they got in.

"Somebody was supposed to be watching the house and there are keys and other devices used to gain entry to the house and we know that somebody gave permission to someone to use that and that's part of the investigation that is ongoing," Chief Walsh said.

The good news is there was no vandalism done to the home thanks to that quick call from a neighbor which also headed off any drunken teen drivers from climbing into their cars.

"I'm commending the people that called the police right away, they prevented something big from happening," Chief Walsh said.

Police say they're in the process of identifying who furnished the alcohol and expect to file charges of hosting an underage party under New Hampshire law.
