Rob Gronkowski Has Punctured Lung Or Chest Injury, According To Reports

BOSTON (CBS) – Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is reportedly hurt and will not play Sunday in San Francisco against the 49ers.

The question is - what's the injury?

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Gronkowski suffered what is believed to be a punctured lung against Seattle Sunday night.

However, about four hours after that report, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported it's a "chest injury - not a punctured lung - that is considered "not overly serious.""

Rapoport reported that Gronkowski could miss just one game.

CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported that Gronkowski is undergoing tests, but the injury does not appear to be as severe as a punctured lung.

It is unclear when Gronkowski was injured, but he was hit hard by Seahawks safety Earl Thomas III in the second quarter while attempting to catch a pass.

"That was a big hit for sure," Gronkowski said after the game. "Probably one of the hardest I got hit in my career."

Thomas hit Gronkowski in the chest after Kam Chancellor knocked the ball out of his hands. Gronkowski said it was a "good clean hit" and he went on to finish the game.
