Klay Thompson The Latest Addition To Never-Ending Celtics Rumor Mill

BOSTON (CBS) -- As expected, the Boston Celtics have found themselves involved in nearly every trade rumor that surfaces this season.

The Celtics are reportedly in the mix for anyone and everyone should their current teams decide it's time to explore a trade, thanks to Boston's need for a true star and collection of draft picks and young talent. From DeMarcus Cousins to Anthony Davis, it doesn't matter how outrageous or unlikely the rumor actually is, the Celtics are near the forefront in every potential deal.

And on Monday morning there's a new name to add to the always-growing list, thanks to Celtics analyst Brian Scalabrine, who is now throwing Golden State Warriors forward Klay Thompson into the mix:

It's a very cryptic statement by Scal (let's not forget, the Milwaukee Bucks also wear green uniforms), but it should come as no surprise that Danny Ainge would hastily pick up the phone upon hearing Thompson is potentially available. The 6-foot-7 Thompson is averaging 18.8 points on 46 percent shooting from the floor this season, and though he's only hitting 32 percent from three-point range, he's a career 42 percent shooter from downtown. He'd be the offensive force the Celtics have needed should the Warriors decide Thompson is the odd man out after adding Kevin Durant over the summer. In addition to being one of the best offensive players in the game, Thompson is also a legitimate defender.

According to Scalabrine, the Celtics would send Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder ability to swap first-round picks with the Brooklyn Nets in the upcoming draft to Golden State for Thompson. The 26-year-old, two-time All-Star is signed through the end of the 2019 season at an average of $17.75 million per season.

Whether any of these rumors are more than just stuff being thrown against the wall remains to be seen, but don't expect them to go away until "Trader Danny" finds a suitable trade partner -- if ever.

Update: Scal did a little backtracking Monday afternoon:

For even more Celtics trade rumor talk, CBS Boston's Brian Robb joined Toucher & Rich on Monday to discuss the availability of Cousins and Davis:
